Back to School

Back to School

This week, many children will start school.  Almost all children, even those with easy temperaments, will be both excited and anxious about a new school year.  Going to the school, meeting the teacher, their classmates, and knowing their schedule can help children relax, anticipate what is going to happen and be ready for these new experiences.

It is a time of beginnings.  Rituals can help both children and parents to feel calm.  Some families have a ritual dinner, clean clothes laid out on the bed, sharpened pencils, and a weekend during which everyone goes to bed on time.  No big fights or upsets help to reduce anxiety.

It is almost time to celebrate the new year.  Help your children make it a good year.
